Abu Walid

year

During my project, aimed at documenting the profound impact of forced displacement on Palestinians in Jordan through the lens of their writings on walls, homes, and shops, I met Abu Walid’s elderly uncle, who was in his eighties. Eager to comprehend the true meaning of losing one’s homeland, I accompanied him to his home, where he shared his poignant tale. However, in my visit, I observed a notable absence of belongings that could signify their identity. Instead, his countenance reflected overwhelming feelings of loss and sorrow. Abu Walid seemed cocooned in a realm of intangible emotions, grappling with the internal turmoil caused by his displacement and an intense yearning for a sense of belonging and home.
